Operating cruise control or the variable limiter
WARNING Risk of accident due to unknown stored speed

If you call up the stored speed and this is lower than your current speed, the vehicle decelerates.

If you do not know the stored speed, the vehicle could decelerate unexpectedly.

Take into account the traffic situation before calling up the stored speed.
If the stored speed is not known, store the desired speed again.

Change into a lower gear in good time on long and steep downhill gradients. Take particular note of this when driving a laden vehicle. By doing so, you will make use of the braking effect of the engine. This relieves the load on the brake system and prevents the brakes from overheating and wearing too quickly.

Requirements:
Cruise control
  • Cruise control is selected.

  • ESP® must be switched on, but not intervening.

  • The driving speed must be at least 15 mph (20 km/h).

Variable Limiter
  • The vehicle has been started.

  • The variable limiter is selected.

To switch between cruise control and variable limiter .
  • LIM indicator lamp off: cruise control is selected.

  • LIM indicator lamp on: the variable limiter is selected.

To store current speed (once after starting the vehicle).
or
To call up last speed stored .
To deactivate cruise control or variable limiter .
Press the lever briefly: stored speed is increased or reduced by 1 mph (1 km/h).
or
Press and hold the lever: stored speed is increased or reduced in 1 mph (1 km/h) increments.
or
Press the lever beyond the pressure point: stored speed is increased or reduced by 5 mph (10 km/h).
or
Press and hold the lever beyond the pressure point: stored speed is increased or reduced in 5 mph (10 km/h) increments.

If cruise control or the variable limiter has been deactivated, the current speed is stored with or .

Vehicles with manual transmission: if the engine speed is very low, cruise control or the limiter is deactivated. When the engine speed approaches the maximum engine speed, or neutral is engaged or the clutch pedal is depressed for longer than six seconds, cruise control is deactivated.

On vehicles with a segment display in the speedometer, the segments extending from the current stored speed to the end of the scale light up. If you have activated the permanent limiter and a speed is stored, the segments extending up to the stored speed light up.

If you perform a kickdown, the variable limiter is switched to passive mode. The variable limiter is operational again once the speed drops below the stored speed.

If you brake, deactivate ESP® or if ESP® intervenes, cruise control is deactivated. The variable limiter is not deactivated.

When you switch off the vehicle, the last speed stored is cleared.
