Starting a vehicle using a mobile phone

If children are left unattended in the vehicle, they could:

Open doors, thereby endangering other persons or road users.
Get out of the vehicle and be hit by oncoming traffic.
Operate vehicle equipment and become trapped, for example.

Moreover, children could also set the vehicle in motion by, for example:

Releasing the parking brake.
Shifting the automatic transmission out of park position or shifting manual transmission into idle position.
Starting the engine.

Never leave children and animals unattended in the vehicle.

WARNING Risk of exhaust gas poisoning

Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust gases such as carbon monoxide. Inhaling these exhaust gases causes poisoning.

Never leave the engine running in an enclosed space without sufficient ventilation.

WARNING Risk of fire caused by flammable material on the exhaust system

Flammable materials brought in by either animals or environmental influences may ignite if they come into contact with hot parts of the engine or exhaust system.

Therefore, check regularly that there are no flammable materials in the engine compartment or on the exhaust system.

Requirements:

the vehicle is equipped with the "Digital Car Key" function.
the "Digital Car Key" function is activated via the Mercedes me connect web app: Mercedes me Homepage.
suitable mobile phone with NFC aerial (Near Field Communication) and Secure Element.
sufficient charge level of the mobile phone. On some mobile phones, the function is also available when the battery is discharged.

Mercedes-Benz recommends that you carry the emergency key in case of function restrictions.

The function is only available in combination with Mercedes me connect and only in certain countries.

Protective cases around the mobile phone can impair the functionality.

Make sure that the charge level of the mobile phone is sufficient. If necessary, charge the mobile phone before starting the journey.

Starting the vehicle for the first time after activating the function

Make sure that there is a valid vehicle key in the vehicle.

Place the mobile phone in marked space

so that the NFC aerial areas touch each other.

Depress the brake pedal and start the vehicle using the start/stop button.

The key is not needed for any further starts.

The "Digital Vehicle Key" service can be deactivated in Mercedes me connect at Mercedes me Homepage. The function is then deactivated in the smartphone via an online connection. If connection to the Internet is not possible, e.g. after the mobile phone has been stolen, the key function can be deactivated at a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
