Notes on fuel grades on vehicles with petrol engines

NOTE Damage due to incorrect fuel

Even small amounts of the wrong fuel could result in damage to the fuel system, engine and exhaust system.

Only refuel using unleaded petrol with at least 91 AKI/95 RON/95 RON/85 MON that conforms to European standard EN 228 or E DIN 51626-1 or an equivalent specification.

Fuel of this specification may contain up to 10% ethanol by volume. Your vehicle is suitable for use with E10 fuel.

Only use sulphur-free fuel (sulphur content ≤ 10ppm).
Never refuel with the following:

  • diesel

  • petrol with more than 10% ethanol by volume, e.g. E15, E20, E85, E100

  • petrol with more than 3% methanol by volume, e.g. M15, M30, M85, M100

  • petrol with additives containing metal

Do not mix such fuels with the fuel recommended for your vehicle.

If you have accidentally refuelled with the wrong fuel:

do not switch the ignition on.
Consult a qualified specialist workshop.
NOTE Malfunctions due to contaminated fuel

Fuel contamination can lead to malfunctions in the fuel system.

If you are using drums or canisters to refuel the vehicle, you should filter the fuel before filling.
NOTE Damage caused by the wrong fuel

For petrol with maximum 5% ethanol by volume
For petrol with maximum 10% ethanol by volume
According to European standard EN 16942 you can find the compatibility indications at the following locations:

  • on the vehicle on the instruction label in the fuel filler flap

  • throughout Europe on the fuel pumps or pump nozzles suitable for your vehicle

If the available fuel is not sufficiently low in sulphur, this can produce unpleasant odours.
