Vehicle conditions for the automatic engine stop or start

In a few countries, the ECO start/stop function is not available in any drive program due to the available fuel grade, regardless of the multimedia system display.

Conditions for the automatic engine stop:
  • Vehicles without a 48 V electrical system (EQ Boost technology):

    • the ECO start/stop function is activated.

    • the brake system does not require a running engine.

    • the outside temperature and atmospheric air pressure is within the range that is suitable for the system.

    • the engine is at normal operating temperature.

    • no engine diagnostics are active.

    • the engine speed is within the range that is suitable for the system.

    • the transmission fluid temperature is within the range that is suitable for the system.

    • the temperature in the vehicle interior is within the set range.

    • the fuel tank is sufficiently filled.

    • the system detects that the windscreen is not misted up when the air-conditioning system is switched on.

    • the charge status and the voltage of the battery are sufficient.

    • the battery temperature is within the range that is suitable for the system.

    • the system does not recognise a steep uphill or downhill gradient.

    • the bonnet is closed.

    • AIR BODY CONTROL does not raise the level.

  • Vehicles with a 48 V on-board electrical system (EQ Boost technology):

    • the ECO start/stop function is activated.

    • the brake system does not require a running engine.

    • the atmospheric air pressure is within the range that is suitable for the system.

    • the engine is at normal operating temperature.

    • no engine diagnostics are active.

    • the transmission fluid temperature is within the range that is suitable for the system.

    • the temperature in the vehicle interior is within the set range.

    • the fuel tank is sufficiently filled.

    • the system detects that the windscreen is not misted up when the air-conditioning system is switched on.

    • the system does not recognise a steep uphill or downhill gradient.

    • the bonnet is closed.

    • AIR BODY CONTROL does not raise the level.

Conditions for the automatic engine start:
  • Vehicles without a 48 V electrical system (EQ Boost technology):

    • the vehicle is rolling.

    • the brake system requires a running engine.

    • the engine temperature has exceeded the range that is suitable for the system.

    • the outside temperature or atmospheric air pressure has exceeded the range that is suitable for the system.

    • engine diagnostics requires a running engine.

    • the transmission oil temperature has exceeded the range that is suitable for the system.

    • the temperature in the vehicle interior deviates from the set range.

    • the system detects moisture on the windscreen when the air-conditioning system is switched on.

    • the battery's charge status is too low.

    • the battery temperature has exceeded the range that is suitable for the system.

    • the system recognises a steep uphill or downhill gradient.

  • Vehicles with a 48 V on-board electrical system (EQ Boost technology):

    • the brake system requires a running engine.

    • the engine temperature has exceeded the range that is suitable for the system.

    • the atmospheric air pressure has exceeded the range that is suitable for the system.

    • engine diagnostics requires a running engine.

    • the transmission oil temperature has exceeded the range that is suitable for the system.

    • the temperature in the vehicle interior deviates from the set range.

    • the system detects moisture on the windscreen when the air-conditioning system is switched on.

    • the system recognises a steep uphill or downhill gradient.
